Thomas Jan Posthuma &
Elisabeth Eisma
Decendents of the Donia, Harinxma, Popma, Nijdam, van Roorda, van Aytta, Helvadra, Siccama & Sickingha families.
Our Story
Thomas Jan Posthuma and Elisabeth Eisma were married on May 26th, 1921, when they were 25 and 23 years old. They lived in Nijlân, Wymbritseradiel and were dairy farmers. They had 9 children, three of which did not survive infancy.
There was a family belief that they were somehow connected to the legendary Pier Gerlofs Donia, also know as "Grutte Pier". Research revealed that Thomas was descended from Pier's sister Tijdt, who lived on the estate with him.
Tijdt was descended from two noble families, Harinxma and Popma. Though there is some dispute over this, the name Donia and the family coat of arms suggests that they were a noble family.
