POSTHUMA FAMILY TREE
OUR BACKGROUND
Our family is from Fryslân, The Netherlands.
Netherlands means "low lands", which refers to the sea level of the land. In modern times, Fryslân exists as a province of the country The Netherlands. It is situated in Europe on the coast of the North Sea between Belgium and Germany.
All locations given are in Fryslân unless stated otherwise. I have used the Frysk spelling as the default spelling, and the historic municipality names and boarders.
Regarding information about individuals:
Any time something is written in brackets, this refers to alternate spellings as found in the records. The spelling of names varies a lot, especially in the older time periods.
Any time there is a question mark, this indicates a best guess about the information.
All information has been verified to the best of our ability, using public records, grave stones and historic genealogies.
When searching on the internet, usually the dutch spelling needs to be used for better results.
Frysk = Frisian
Fryslân = Friesland
Nederlân = Nederland
Place names also have a Frysk and a Dutch spelling. See the locations list for more details.
