In 1793 the stins was converted into a state. The building was put up for sale in 1845 when the owner, Sjoerd Berends Bekema, passed away. When it was put up for sale, the description said it had 12 rooms, several marble mantlepieces, two kitchens, a laundry room, a large cellar, attic with a tiled roof and a rainwater tank.

In 1845 the state was demolished and transported to Spannenburg where it was rebuilt into a new building. The new building has the same fascade as the original state.
